Link: Isle of Palms Connector Run and Walk for the Child

The organizers of this race have agreed to allow CSC to place brochures for the Reindeer Run in their race packets in exchange for some volunteers. They have asked that we provide 10-12 people to help out with post-race clean up. Volunteers will meet at the IOP fire station at 9:30 on October 6th. (Prospective members may receive up to 2 volunteer credits towards their minimum requirement for membership; the remaining two credits must come from a CSC organized volunteer event.)

The Isle of Palms Connector officially opened in October 1993 with the inaugural Isle of Palms Connector Run and Walk. This year's race will be on Saturday October 6, 2007. The Exchange Clubs of Mount Pleasant and the Isle of Palms, the City of Isle of Palms, the Town of Mount Pleasant and the MUSC Children's Hospital are proud to sponsor the race this year. We look forward to the participation of all sponsors, participants and volunteers in making this race a success. 100% of the net proceeds from this event support the local prevention of child abuse and other child-related programs. The Run and Walk will start at 8 a.m. beginning at the foot of the connector on Palm Boulevard (Isle of Palms side of connector). 10K and 5K runners and walkers will all do a loop (of varying distances) on the connector finishing at the Isle of Palms. The great vistas afforded from the marshes and Atlantic Ocean make the Isle of Palms Connector Run and Walk one of the most popular and fastest growing events in South Carolina.

Come over the Ashley River Bridge and turn left onto Albemarle Rd under the overpass (this is just before the fork to go on Folly Rd or continue on Hwy 17...there is a furniture company called ESD on your right). Once you are on Albemarle, the Piggly Wiggly building is just down on the left across from the Porter Gaud baseball field (There's a Pig at the top of the building). Please make sure to drive to the back of the building and park in the big parking lot. The doors are locked at 6:00, so the guard will need to let you in (he sits on that side of the building). Come to the 4th floor and the conference room is to the right.

If any of you are coming from another direction and need directions from that point please Amie Grimes know. (If you are downtown you can also come the James Island connector).

Tooobin' down the Edisto
07/21/2007 9:30 AM SHARP
Where: Givhans Ferry State Park, 746 Givhans Ferry Road, Ridgeville, SC 29472
Cost: $2
Contact: Friends of Charitable Society of Charleston info@charitablesocietyofcharleston.org
Link: Charitable Society of Charleston

It's that time again, so pack your coolers and sunscreen for a fun-filled day floating on the Edisto. We'll meet at Givhans Ferry State Park at 9:30 AM SHARP to depart for our upriver put-in. The Park is about 35 miles from Charleson and admission is $2 per person.

This year's trip will include a Pimp My Tube contest, so get those ideas floating like tubes on a river. Judges will be impartial but possibly impaired. The Edisto is the longest blackwater river in North America and trip time depends upon rain and water quantity, so plan for a full day with plenty of food and beverages. Aside from your tube and your cooler, plan for garbage as we keep the river clean. Not much else is needed other than your swimsuit...Remember that every item you bring must fit on or in your tube(s).

Make plans to carpool and also to have a safe ride home. Sun plus beverages = fun times but we must keep it safe and there are no taxis in Ridgeville!

For those wishing to MEET and CARAVAN, we will meet in the Total Wine & More parking lot at the intersection of Hwy 61 and Cosgrove at 8:45 and depart at 9am SHARP.
